12 Mile loop hike leaving Bear Valley visitor center and starting out with a difficult climb up Mt. Wittenberg trail, a hike along Sky Trail to Coat Trail then to Arch Rock and returning via Bear Valley Trail.
The very best for running. Tough start but the rest is relatively easy for trail runners.
Beautiful hike. I love doing the uphill part first and then having a nice relaxing hike the rest of the way.
We had lunch on the beach. Took a swing on the buoy swing.
Cruised back to the parking lot on the very easy ending.
In the field next to the last outhouse there are some nice tree benches for a little nap before returning to civilization.
We started from Bear Valley Trailhead, hiked up to the Sky Trail and went down to the Kelham Beach. We walked all the way the section of the crumbled Arch Rock in the Point Reyes National Seashore. From the beach we returned to the Bear Valley Trail and back to the trailhead. The weather was perfect, partial sunny, no wind..It was a wonderful hike.
The trail to Arch rock is indefinitely closed so that was a big disappointment but it appears you may be able to walk along the beach and see the area. I didn't get a chance to try this because I didn't know the tide schedule. Overall, the views of the coastal cliffs and Drakes Bay were a highlight.
Beautiful. Hard, but every single drop of sweat was worth it! Definitely will do it again!
Okay hike. Path down to the ocean is easy hike back is much different. Arched rock was closed which was a bummer.
Accessed this trail from Old Pine Trail on the way to connect to Coast Trail. Moderate hills at times, pretty scenery, nice first glimpse of the ocean.
Great hiking, and plentiful, free parking - I arrived at 9am on a Saturday and there were loads of empty spots, and when I left around 1pm there were still spaces and plenty of cars pulling out. It was a foggy day though, so might fill up when the forecast is good.
Lovely forest and nice coastline, I can't really speak to the views because of the fog (not the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5). Not too easy but also not strenuous if you're in reasonable shape. Unfortunately the overlook for arch rock collapsed recently, and apparently most of the formation is also gone.
The bear valley trail at the end had some hikers, but other than that didn't see too many other people. In total it took me about 4 hours.
