This is one of the most popular hiking spots in LA. It was temporarily closed from 4/1/16 - 7/31/16 for pipe repair work, but reopened as of Tuesday, August 2nd. Because the park was closed for a while, rattlesnakes and coyotes have come back into the park. If you have a small or medium sized dog, please consider putting them on a leash in Runyon.

Easy to get to and can't get lost. Always smells like dog pee and will get your fair share of people talking on cell phones.

Beautiful view. I like the option of paved trail vs. dirt as well as Varying difficulties to climb.
Donation based Yoga at the bottom is lovely.

Lots of dogs off leashes. If thats not your thing, beware.

I personally don't appreciate all the dog crap every where. Dogs should also be on leashes . People pick up after your Dogs.

One of my favorite hikes, it's not boring, but parking is a little tough to find and dog poop smell does get a little bad when owners are not responsible of picking up after the pups.
But it is a nice hike and great view to the top.

When I heard the announcement that it was going to close for several months, I decided to go check it out. It's a great place to take your dog and let him off leash, but bring plenty of water for him.
First off, I think the main reason that Runyon is so popular is that people want see celebrities. Secondly, if you live in the area it is a good local outdoor space to get in a work out after work. The elevation climb is gradual, but steady and tires you out by the time you reach the top. The views are great of downtown.
The bad: it's dusty, crowded, the parking is a joke. I get the impression that people come here not for beautiful scenery, but to stare at beautiful people.
Hey! It's Hollywood.
