Ridge Lakes Trail is a 2.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Old Station, California that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible from March until October.
2.3 mile trail in Lassen Volcanic National Park A short but steep hike with 1000 feet elevation gain, so it can be quite strenuous, especially at this altitude. The trail starts at Sulphur Works, on the main park road. It climbs right away and simply never stop climbing (pretty steep towards the end) until you reach the destination: a beautiful hidden little lake with turquoise waters. Great place for a picnic.
I really enjoyed this hike. Short but great elevation gain. The lakes are basically the cauldron of old Mt. Tehama. I plan on going again next year and will go earlier so as to be able to hike out the back and up the sides of the cauldron.
Excellent powder hike' but steep in some places. Gorgeous!
Steep climb but plenty of shade and beautiful scenery!
Steep- almost constantly uphill 1 mile to a beautiful little green lake. Was still a little bit of snow on the trail.
Would be wonderful to backpack into and camp at sometime!
It's kind of steep, but it's only amile to the lake, which is even more beautiful in the winter.
Trail was snowy, but the footing was solid except for a short segment. The lakes were half frozen over and stunning in the sunshine. I continued up to the ridge on the far side of the lakes, but I don't think the trail did somewhere under the snow. Great views from the lakes and the ridge.
