Redwood Highway Scenic Drive: Eureka to Crescent City is a 78 mile trail located near Trinidad, CA. The trail is primarily used for scenic driving and is accessible year-round.
It is a very impressive and scenic drive. We really enjoyed ourselves.
I've done this several times and it's always awe-inspiring.
Very pretty drive through the redwoods.
Love the redwoods be sure to stop for a short hike/walk
Beautiful ocean and mountain views!. But it seems that many who have rated this route are confused. THIS road goes from Eureka NORTH to Crescent city. It does not go through the Avenue of the Giants. Which is south of Eureka. I have lived in the area for almost 30 years and forgive me if I seem to ramble... I don't want anyone to miss a thing up here.
Like the "Avenue", this route is also full of giant Old-growth Redwoods and has many trail heads along the way. Newton B. Drury scenic route is really impressive. The Prairie Creek State park is along the way and usually has elk in the pasture next to the park entrance. Once many years ago, (I was a child) I was able to go to the Banana slug festival at the park, it was a bunch of fun!
Trees of mystery has a large parking lot and can be very busy during the summer months. The gift shop is nice and the sky trail gondolas give a unique view one might not imagine.
I almost forgot the Lagoons! They are such a diverse group. Look them up before you go. you might just stay a while. There are many natural things to do there!
I will also suggest the side trip from Eureka south to Benbow. (Avenue of the Giants) There are many many beautiful things to see and do there too. but no ocean views there.
All in all... along this route you can find so many things to do that you might just need an itinerary.
I do not give many fives but I would give this route a 10 if they had one. Take your time and do everything along the way. It may be a little touristy in places but well worth it. I have been through several times and done all the stuff like the drive through tree, gift shop under the roots and diner in a log. But my favorite is to get out and walk in the woods. They give off a beautiful feeling that can only be felt and not described. It is a place that you want to share with someone you love or just selfishly cherish. Sorry if I got carried away but those who have been understand.
i dream of this road
One of the best scenic drives in the West but make sure you get out and walk a bit at one of the Groves. The one place that everyone seems to stop at is Trees of Mystery which is a cool tourest trap but I just can't help but stop here! As mientioned on another review don't miss the Avenue of Giants!
Beautiful drive up the coast changes dramatically to thick redwood forest. Great side drive down the Avenue of the Giants if you have the time.
