Cerro Cabrillo Park Ridge Trail is a 2.7 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near San Luis Obispo, CA that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from March until October.
Wasn't sure when I first started because of the initial uphill ascent (& being out of shape), but it was excellent and the view was great too.
There are some steep bits and rocks but this is all part of the fun. The trail through the tall grass is narrow and the grass now (April 2016) is up to about 5 feet in places. Each turn in the trail brings something different. We would highly recommend the trails in the Cerro Cabrillo trails as the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. The ocean and the estuary to the west, Tiki Rock, Rock bluffs, geology is very interesting. We saw a brush rabbit, a mouse, plenty of lizards, quail and plenty of other song birds. There are still flowers to be seen: Sticky Monkeyflower, Globe Lilys, California Poppys, Chia, Blue Dicks, Common Goldstar, Milk Vetch, Ferns, Mallow, and the beautiful Sisyrinchium angustifolium. Some of the Sisyrinchium are in pod while some areas still carpeted. Many more flowers and grasses.
Great for hiking, walking, birding, botanizing and enjoy nature. A picnic is a must, just pull up a bit of bare rock or dirt and have a seat, the great outdoors is the entertainment!
