Directions from Mountain Center, CA: Travel south on Highway 74, continuing several miles past Lake Hemet (Garner Valley Area, which lies between Idyllwild and Palm Springs). Turn left (east) onto Fobes Ranch Road (6S05). This hike leaves Garner Valley from Fobes Ranch Road.
This was a nice surprise. After about half a mile the trail opens up to an open landscape of rolling hills, rock formations and high mountains in the distance. We had a perfect sunny day, and saw only 4 other hikers while we were out. There are lots of hiking options on this section of the PCT, but this is probably the most accessible from the Palm Springs area, and at 5000 feet, is one of the lower elevation options so you can hike it earlier in the season.
