Nacimiento-Fergusson Road is a 23.8 mile point-to-point trail located near Big Sur, California that features a great forest setting. The trail is rated as difficult and primarily used for scenic driving.
A lesser known scenic driving option in Big Sur territory, this hairpin turn-filled road takes you into the hills for some stunning, elevated views of the coastline and ocean. It's the only through driving route that travels over the Santa Lucia range.
Did it on a street bike on a long road trip....awesome road.
We did it from the PCH to inland. Spectacular drive up the mountain and down into the state forest. Steep, winding and narrow but only saw one other car the whole time.
Was like taking a hike in the car.
This is an awesome drive! Hairpin turns down the mountain and not for the faint hearted. If you are military or civil service, consider staying at the Hacienda which is in the city of Jolon and you can take Nacimiento-Fergusson Road to get to Big Sur for hiking.
Very good motorcycle ride from the coast to gilroy, ca and back to route 1... We'll do it again
I stayed in a campground halfway down the road from PCH. The drive in and out and everyday was gorgeous--one of my favorite parts of my visit to Big Sur.
Picture this.. You plan a camping trip around the Perseid Meteor Shower each year.. but when it peaks, cloud cover is thick. no way to see it. Duh, it's Big Sur in August. How do you get above the clouds in order to see an awesome sunset and check out the meteor shower on a coastline that is totally blocked by cliffs? Nacimiento-Fergusson Road to save the day. Like the other guy said... you drive a super windy road straight up through the clouds which is quite an adventure... but once you come out on top of the clouds, it's beautiful. There is a military base somewhere up here so don't be alarmed if you see vans full of military peeps. Just kick back and enjoy the view.
If you've got the stomach for essentially driving up the side of a cliff, this is a gorgeous drive.
