Moon Country Loop is a 4 mile loop trail located near Thousand Palms, CA that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and birding and is accessible from October until March.
The trail starts right before you arrive at the McCallum Pond at the Coachella Valley Preserve. This trail is the real desert in the natural setting. Talk about 360 degree shift, no Palm trees, shade or tall shrubs, it's a major transition. The landscape are low hills, no shade. It's a far hike to arrive at the canyons where it's really interesting but sadly enough where many ever sees because it's far. Best to hike this place between (November - March).
Note: There's no cost to park or hike. This trail has no trashcans, benches, restrooms or drinking fountains.
Very pretty, and fairly easy. We took the McCallum trail through the Thousand Palms Oasis and around McCallum pond then back to the Moon Country Trail. Take a stop from the trail to enjoy the view from atop Vista Point it is truly gorgeous.
