Enjoy the spectacular views of the South bay as you climb up to Mission Peak. Although steep, the views are very rewarding. This is a moderate to strenuous trail with a constant uphill climb until you reach the summit. The trail is a well maintained gravel base until the last half mile. From this point the trail is hard pack dirt and rocky. Difficulty would definitely increase during the rainy season. The Stanford Avenue staging area is also the western access to the Ohlone Wilderness Trail, a 29-mile hiking and riding trail through some of Southern Alameda County's most beautiful wilderness, and provides access to Mission Peak's 2,999 acres. Ensure that you have plenty of water before embarking on this hike, as there are very few spots to locate shade. The trail may be shared with equestrians, and dogs are allowed. There is no fee for parking, however on a busy day you may be required to park a little west, on one of the side streets. Dogs are allowed on leash in developed areas/under voice command in undeveloped areas of the park

Not bad. Straight climb up and there were parts that made you feel like you were in a western european countryside BUT extremely crowded

Half the trail is very open without any shade - most of the time a decent hike except for the last 10 minutes with a steep incline - a very good workout. The other half takes you through a small valley with small creeks and some shade occasionally.
The first half has a lot of traffic and the second has very little (completely opposite)

Very tough hike to the top just for a photo at the pole! The view was nice. As always bring lots of water. Almost no shade on this hike. It's cool that you see cows roaming around at the beginning.

No views during the hike. Boring hike. But it is a killer work out. Be ready to wait to take pictures with the stick. It's like a photo session up there. Take plenty of water because there isn't any water during the hike and you will want/need the water.

All up hill and moderately strenuous. Bring plenty of water. Last push to the top is over rocky trails but worth the view. Not a hike with breadth taking beauty, but more about the personal challenge to make it to the top.

A nice hike with 2000 ft elevation while the entire loop is around 6 miles. The entire hike takes 2.5 to 3 hrs with few short brakes. Make sure carry enough water because you are not going to hike in woods with shades of tall trees. Also be cautious while you are retiring from summit because it is steep because I saw at least 5 people slipping on the trial.

It was non stop incline to the top. With beautiful view and really work your whole body out. Downside of this trail is sun burn. There isn't much trees and shades. Make sure to wear hat and sunblock. Otherwise it feels really great to finish the whole trip.

I just did this for the first time to prepare for a backpack trip and found it to be on the difficult side of moderate due to the steep terrain and exposed trail. Saw a red tail hawk, wild turkey and a coyote! Fantastic views of course.

Another good hike, not better than mount Diablo. But good exercise for weight loss.
