Los Vaqueros Watershed is a 4.7 mile loop trail located near Brentwood, CA. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking.
Dry uneventful hike, If you go farther in the system on the back of Vaqueros there are some nested golden Eagles and you eventually can go through a gate to Round Valley. Be on the lookout for Rattlesnakes especially in the rocky areas.
It's a bit of a hike from your car to the reservoir but once there the trails are easy to find as there is only one way to go (the other side is blocked off by a fence). The Crest Trail goes to the top. Not much shade so go early in the summer or when it's cooler in the spring or fall. There's also an interesting building by the parking lot that explains the history of the area. Lots of birds including Turkey Vultures.
The trails are hard to find. And there are no good sights. All you can see is mountains. Never again.
One of my favorite trails
We did the crest trail, it's about two miles. Great views, We saw about eight deer out for a run just before 4pm. The fall is a great time to go if you don't want to get roasted, not much cover on some of the trails. Fishing has been great here too from what I hear and have seen in photos at the center. You can hit The Shed off Vasco if you're coming from Livermore or Walnut road from Brentwood CA-4.
Directions took me to someone's private drive...
