Hwy 111 Indio, left on Grapefruit Blvd (also Hwy 111), left on 66th Ave. which will transition to Box Canyon Rd., left on Painted Canyon Rd.
Little Painted Canyon is referred to as Hike #2 inside this book 140 Great Hikes in and near Palm Springs by Philip Ferranti and Hank Koenig (2008). If anybody were to hike this trail and continue to Big Painted Canyon; that loop would be referred to as Hike #3. Both trails are awesome on their own but to hike that loop would be incredible.
Little Painted Canyon is around 3 miles, Big Painted Canyon is around 2.5 miles, the loop is farther; may be around 6 miles because the trailhead to Big Painted Canyon is 0.5 miles East from Little Painted Canyon.
Was only able to see a portion of this trail, twilight is not the best time to hike this trail, may be in the summer! Will definitely need to return to hike the loop instead and for general information, theres no fee to park or hike at this trail. There are no benches, trashcans, drinking fountains or restrooms anywhere out here at Mecca Hills.
