A day hike from the Mosquito Flat trailhead through the Little lakes valley to Morgan Pass. Little lakes valley hike is a beautiful day hike in the eastern sierra that takes you through scenic lakes formed by snow melt. It is a moderately strenuous hike, not due of the elevation gain, but because of being above 10000ft. The trail starts from the Mosquito flat trail head, located at the end of Rock Creek Road, about 10 miles from Hwy 395. The trail head is at an elevation of 10000+ft, so acclimatization at high altitudes will definitely help. This is one of the most beautiful, not-so-strenuous hikes I have done in the eastern sierra.
It's a very pretty high altitude trail. I used this trail to help me get ready for my successful climb of Mount Whitney.
Really nice with lots of views.
Very pretty and relatively easy hike! Lots of mosquitos this time of year though (June) so bring your spray or cover up!
Nice moderate trail with a beautiful lake to relax, worth the hike.
This is a great easy hike with amazing views of lakes and great Sierra mountains
Beautiful especially in the snow! Just a wonderful hike!
Bummer Bummer and Bummer. With stupendous planning upfront to hike this trail only took us about .7 miles with only to realize snow was daunting. Will go back and yes worth the write-up on disappointment as this is a gorgeous 7 mile hike worth going back to Bishop for.
Awesome place to backpack for a night or two and try some luck with the fishing! Awesome views!
Beautiful! Great hike and my dog even loved it!
Beautiful trail. Many spring flowers. No snow as if this review.
Nice trail. Most scenic lake is the one at end if trail: Gem Lake. Not too many people on trail but a lot of dogs.
Gotta love confusing place names, there is this Gem Lake along the Mosquito Flats / Little Lakes trail. Then there is also a Gem Lake above Agnew Lake up the Rush Creek trailhead about 30 miles northwest along the June Lake Loop!
This area according to http://www.monocounty.org/rock-creek/ says the road is under construction through 2015 and 2016 so plan ahead!
Cant say enough about how beautiful this trail is. One thing important to note is the hike begins at very high elevation so you may notice you rbreathing is more difficult if not acclimated. I went here in late spring and there was still snow just past Heart Lake. Ice covered part of the lake..and the grassy areas were still gold-brown and a little marshy.
We wanted to keep going but didn't have the right gear for snow hiking..started post holing and turned back just past Heart Lake West end..this was mid may (but 2014)
There are many more lovely spots along Rock Creek road on your way up as well to stop and explore and maybe have a picnic or spend the day. Many fisherman in this area as well.
