Very easy but nice walk on a mostly flat trail around a beautiful lake in the center of Oakland. Always great for people watching.

Good city walk. Use to work close by with time on my hands so i did it more than a few times. Not as good in the middle of the summer when the lake can have a bit of a smell to it.

Nice urban pleasant walk. It's scenic and there are lots of great restaurants and pit stops for kids.

What can I say, it's the lake. When I go to the lake I spend most of my time in the botanical garden. It's a awesome hidden gem that many don't seem to know about.

Not my typical place to go but great to have this space right in town.

This was the most fun I had in weeks. Beautiful day, beautiful people, and good food at the farmers market. I recommend the beacon wrap and the kettle corn.

I had a such pleasure walking around the lake this afternoon. If I have more time I'd like to do canoeing as well. When you are hungry then there are plenty nice restaurants around.

Walking around Lake Merritt's shoreline really highlights Oakland's unique escarpment. Names etched into the sidewalk and storm drain outlets mark the spots where open creeks once emptied into the lake, which is really just an estuary. The lake's level fluctuates daily with the tide, breathing fresh life into the ecosystem that depends heavily on that ebb and flow. The improvements made to the southern shore are fantastic, and as the city continues to remove the old culverts the health and beauty of the lake should only get better.

Extremely easy. Great for taking kids or going for an easy stroll. If you plan it, after the stroll a nice picnic time and perhaps even an hour of canoes, kayak, or paddling boats. There are nice restaurants around as well. Great for a nice romantic date!
