High View Nature Trail is a 1.3 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Yucca Valley, CA that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
Directions from Oasis Visitor Center: Drive westward on Highway 62 and turn south on Joshua Lane, which will lead to Black Rock Canyon. Before reaching the entrance to the campground turn right and drive to South Park parking area.
Camped out in Black Rock Canyon Campground, and took a quick trip up to Hi-View. This trail is also called the West Side Loop Trail, and is accessible right from the outskirts of the campground. The trail is VERY maintained, there are nice rock-luged stairs where the grade gets a little too steep. The view from the top is GREAT, although could sometimes be EXTREMELY windy/cold depending on season. It's the end of January, and our entire camping trip/hike was plagued by seriously high winds. There was a storm coming in, don't know if the had anything to do with it specifically, or if the area is randomly windy.
Spring time you can imagine how much better this place would look in comparison to summer where majority of the mountains in Yucca are brown. This loop for your information is just perfect for an easy workout, nothing like Ryan mountain or Bump and Grind. The views are magnificent at the summit. When you make it up there, make an entry to the log sheet. Don't be too surprised when you see Black Rock Canyon Road, it's only a quarter mile length, it's just before the camp ground. What's interesting, it's probably the only road you'll ever encounter with the most pot holes. I've never encountered a road this worse. You'll have to see this road, it's hilarious!! :)
