Start at the Coachella Reserve parking lot. Start on the Macallum Trail, then Moon Country, keeping an eye out for the switchback trail to the left (to the south) at about 2 miles. Climb the switchbacks and you are on Herman Loop. Views are remarkable and rare for 360 degrees. Retrace your steps or carry on toward Willis and then the paved road. Drivers are basically texting idiots, so this is the only dangerous part of the trail.

Hiked this trail back in April 13, 2013, this trail is far away just to get to the starting point. You have to hike through one trail first and that applies to either end of this trail. Its trail where you need to do your research in Google Earth before going out there, Anybody planning to do this hike will be forced to make that adventure a loop and prepare ahead of time to hike around 8 miles minimum to complete the loop. I’m not 100% on that distance; but it’s going to be a far hike, that’s for sure. Make sure you have plenty of water. There’s no shade on this trail, sun protection is going to be critical.
