September 17, 2016 // Highly recommend a day hike to Heather Lake. A stunning hike to a spectacular mountain lake! Not a truly difficult hike, but you should be in decent shape. Start early so you have time to take photos along the way and spend time at the lake. Trekking poles helped. Bring plenty of water, snacks for the hike, and pack lunch to enjoy at the lake. We took the Watchtower trail instead of the Hump trail where the Lakes trail splits. Thanks for the recommendation, folks. Amazing breathtaking views along the hike and at the lake. Loved it. Will definitely do it again!
Great hike. Took the Watchtower trail on the way out and the Hump trail coming back. This is a pretty much upward climb all the way. Hump trail started to go up and then started a decent all the way out. Saw a bear and cub at the watchtower/hump trail junction coming back.
somewhat challenging uphill hike most of the way up, really steep towards the end of the hike, beautiful view of the lake and some waterfalls. a lot of bugs and horse droppings on the way up I'd recommend a bug net to cover your head
Amazing hike full of breathtaking sights!
A nice hike to the watchtower with beautiful views that leads to a refreshing lake at Heather Lake, No Camping here. Then make a small loop of the hiking by taking the hump back to the trail head. makes for a good stroll threw the woods.
Great hike. Rather difficult with a full pack on. This area is very scenic, but keep going for even better.
Great hike, take the watchtower route on the way up and hump on the way back. Crystal clear water, I caught 4 beautiful rainbow trout in about an hour up there.
Tough hike if you take the Hump route but beautiful views the whole time.
Awesome hike. take the Watchtower trail. I had no idea this hike had such a elevation gain of 4336ft. Incredible. This lake is an oasis in the mountains and worth the trip. Have fun!
Good hike, great views. There are two options to get to the lake, the Watertower trail and the Hump trail. I recommend taking the Watertower trail to Heather Lake and the Hump trail back. On the Watertower trail you'll hug the mountain and look over a granite precipice. Amazing. The Hump trail is a short steep climb from the lake but the rest of the way is down.
A bit of a strenuous hike definitely have to be in decent shape for this hike. All in all there were some really cool views of the valley and the lake at the end of the hike is great for a quick dip or a nice picnic. The nice thing is most people after the first mile or so get really tired due to the steepness of the climb and because of that I didn't really see that many people on this trail. I would definitely start this trail in the morning have lunch on the shore of the Heather Lake and then head back at a leisurely pace in the afternoon.
