Grasshopper Mountain Trail is a 12.1 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Myers Flat, CA that offers scenic views and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking and is accessible year-round.
This was a 13.8 mile out and back if you start and end at the fire road trail head. The trail head is NOT well marked. Follow the Mattole Rd. west to just past the turn off for Albee Creek campground. Look for the fire road on the left after you cross the Bull Creek bridge. Take the fire road to the locked gate and park there. This trail is a little boring until you reach the fire lookout. The ascent is pretty tough. You can skip the fire look out by taking the Johnson Camp trail at about 4 miles and loop back to the Big Trees day use area.
The peak was in the clouds on the day we hiked so I can only assume the views would have been fantastic.
