Camped at the Fish Creek primitive camp ground, and hiked up the wash to the point where you split up to the wind caves. Very interesting canyon with lots of varied geographic features. Flat trail, but very dry and dusty. Bring plenty of water.

I am new to off-roading, so my review isn't backed by a ton of experience with exploring places like Fish Creek Wash Trail. With that said, my wife and I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a day enjoying the outdoors.

The drive in becomes interesting once you you wind your way into Fish Creek on Split Mountain Trail. The trail winds through a cut in the mountains with high walls on either side of the trail.

One of the first things you'll come to after a few miles on Fish Creek Wash is the trail to the Wind Caves. If it's not unbearably windy, definitely get out and take the short but steep 1.5 mile round trip hike to the wind caves. Very cool! The wind caves are worth the trip, as is the view of Elephant Knees and the beautiful desert.

Then, only about a third of a mile further down is the trailhead to Elephant Knees. We hiked this too but it's not really that great of a hike. It just goes up a wash, and you really never get a great view of anything, since you're more or less tucked in below.

From the recommendation of a local ranger, we drove about 30 minutes further into Fish Creek to Sandstone Canyon and explored that. It was amazing!

Fish Creek is a great place to explore and I definitely recommend it - but only in a 4WD.
