loved it..started late and it got hot..aug..will go again for sure and start early and camp...
also just a fyi the road up to the trailhead is twisty so it's a little hard if you get motion sick :)
This was really hard to find. We used the directions from this app and it didn't take us to the trailhead. You need to just keep following the road it takes you on until you drive to the campground which is unmarked. Then we went to the way left inside the campground and asked around. We found a trail way at the end and started up. We went up like 3.5 miles or so and then back. At one point we signed our names in notebook inside a rusted container and then continued up higher until we were somewhat at the top.
This was a tough one but awsome view !...
Awesome hike. Started at trailhead and went left up through the Sunset Valley and Munch Canyon trails. Kept going right at all intersections of trails all the way up and eventually intersected with Davy Brown trail for a 5.5 mile loop hike. Especially beautiful on the way down running along the creek. Very serene. Will be back.
Spent many a morning hiking this trail since 1977. Awesome place with lots of natural history to tell. Then on to Solvang for a post hike Danish beer and sandwich. Or hike out to Manzana schoolhouse and camp overnight. Return the next day and THEN have a beer and sandwich in Solvang.
Great hike! First you descend 3.25 miles near to a creek which provides beautiful views. When you reach the end of trail at Davey Brown Campground the demanding part starts. 2600 feet elevation gain up the hill. Puhh...but fun. After the rain there was a lot of water in the creeks. Creek crossing without shoes and a wonderful gurgeling sound was the reward. But it was freezing cold up there. Bring layers of clothes and a warm hat. Access via Figueroa Mountain road, because Happy Canyon road is in al poor condition after the rainfall. Have fun!!!
