Ocean views, insulated canyon, coast chaparral, wildflowers, and grasslands. Rapacious development comes up to the very fringes of this natural area, but dip into El Moro Canyon and you will find near solitude. The hike is best in the spring when wildflowers are in full bloom. This is open, mostly treeless country, so a hat and sun screen are a must. Bring your own water. You can take the loop either clockwise or counter-clockwise. If you travel counter clockwise the gentler "West Cut Across" is a better choice for the trip up the hill than the Poles trail. Those who go the other way can save about a mile by entering El Moro Canyon via the Poles Trail.

Great trail for a first timer hiker.

A rather boring trail head with not much vegetation except from random vines with melons growing, but a great and challenging ascend that the kids conquered (ages 6-11).

The views of the ocean and ability to easily walk over to the small beach was well worth it. The kids loved running in the water at sunset and cannot wait to camp there next time.

Nice ocean view from the top. Otherwise a very boring, dusty trail. Most of the vegetation is weed and only wildlife is a few birds in the lower part. Lots of spider webs, if you want to count that as wildlife. $15 to park your car is outrageous given how awful this hike is. There are lots of options to extend your hike, but I honestly can't see why you'd want to. At least you can head over to the beach afterwards to rinse the dust off your legs. Better yet, skip this hike and walk the beach instead!

Well-maintained and easy, fun hike. Worth doing for the views and I would even say that it's definitely worth the $15 parking fee. The loop is awesome because it drops you off at the beach, which is really rad.

Five stars for the workout getting to the top of the hill and five stars for the view once you get there. The trail was not crowded at all. Well-maintained. Still a beginner at this and so the trek to the top was a little difficult with a backpack full of camera equipment, but once you get there, the views were amazing!

There were a bunch of different trails to loop around and the maps were very helpful. The hike itself was fairly easy and it wasn't too crowded. however I went just before 8AM. It got busy by about 10. Parking is $15 for the whole day or $5/hr. I'd recommend the day pass. I payed for 2 hours, but I could've stayed for much longer. The view of the ocean and the surrounding hills and valleys was very pretty. Overall it was super fun and definitely worth checking out.

beautiful view of the ocean. we went in august though so all the brush was dead, it was crazy hot, and there was no shade. the trail was pretty dusty but alright. we ended up getting lost (and probably taking the long loop) so the hike ended up taking around 3-4 hrs. still a fun hike though!

Easy hiking trail near Laguna Beach. Mostly desert scrub brush but has some nice views of the surrounding hills and ocean. At the end of the loop you can hike to the RV park for a nice view of the Pacific ocean and adjacent beach.

Pretty view of the Ocean. This was one of my first hikes so its good for beginners too. Moderate difficulty with a few stretches of incline. Most of the trail path is wide and open so the bikers passing by aren't a problem.

The hike was awesome. However, parking cost $15 and there were quite a lot of bikers on the trail.

We backpacked here for a night... The place was good for a one day backpacking trip, although, I'm not sure how multiple day trip would do. The BFI is exactly as named. We saw some wildlife along the way as well as some Tarantulas! The port a potties at the second camp ground were gross and smelled terrible. Pee in the brush. It's very peaceful and quiet at night and gets really dark. At night, It definitely made you feel like you were out in the wilderness. We would definitely do this trail again. =]
