El Escorpion Canyon Park is a 2 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near West Hills, California that features a cave and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, rock climbing, and birding and is accessible year-round.
A great hike up into the Cave of Munits and on to Castle Peak. A hike to a great vertical cave. Climb up through the cave (no gear necessary) and continue hiking up the side of the mountain. The trail is not very clear here, so just keep scrambling upwards until you get to the top of the ridge, and then continue on toward Castle Peak. From there, there will be a clearly marked trail with a steep descent. An adventurous hike well-worth the scrambling.
Found a few blue dicks on the north side of the creek that parallels the El Escorpion trail. It's a bit early so maybe more will bloom as they really come into season. There were more in more locations last year. Still nice to see some wildflowers. The trails also have mostly dried out from the recent rains. It's a much nicer hike with everything so green.
Hiked out to the Cave of Munits. The hike itself is short and easy. Nothing spectacular. If I do more of the hike up into the hills, may change my rating.
The cave offers opportunities to rock climb, as well as bouldering and scrambling opportunities. The cave is impressive, but so dirty. Broken glass and trash everywhere. This is why we can't have nice things. It definitely has a mixed energy there (the history of it's American Indian roots, mixed with it's current stoner hang out filth).
Worth checking out for sure, but I likely won't got back in the cave unless there is a Trash Free Earth cleanup party inside!
nice spot for me and my boys to go hiking not too difficult for them 9 and 7 years old
Hiking, Rock scrambling, very cool caves. Fun day out with family
Super easy and quick hike to the caves. Spent a lot of time exploring and climbing. Very fun adventure!
Loved the view on top! Going inside the cave was fun too. Make sure to wear proper hiking shoes with good grip, you're gonna need it here.
