Love this place. Stone's throw from the Laguna Lodge with amazing views. Can see clear across the Salton sea to Pope on a clear day.
This is a short point to point trail from the Desert View Picnic Grounds to Burnt Rancheria Campground, offering refreshing desert view with Salton Sea off to the distance; there are parking at the picnic area. Went during winter, after a light snow shower, the trail was covered in couple inches of beautiful white snow.
Great little trail. A stretch of the PCT that has stunning views. Dog friendly too.
Ah, the good ol' nature trail! Desert View is one of my favorites for a nice brisk walk. It's easy, with little elevation gain, plenty of shade, and still some amazing views. I like to start at the Desert View picnic grounds down the road, then head south on the PCT to where it intersects with the nature trail. From the rocky outcropping (you can't miss it) on a clear day, you can take pictures of the Salton Sea. It's got some of the best views on the mountain, a nice bench right in the middle, and ends in a campground with easy access to the highway. Definitely recommend this for all ages and skill levels!
