Can I give less than one star....?

What a total disappointment! The trail listed on the map around the water is not accessible to the general public. It is located inside a private, gated community so forget about that. And if you decide to head out the the actual Deer Creek Hills Preserve Trail down the very rocky, bumpy and UN-maintained Latrobe Rd then you will be sorely disappointed by the NO TRESPASSING signs and barbed wire that greets you.

SKIP THIS HIKE AND SAVE YOURSELF THE AGONY OF WASTING AN AFTERNOON CHASING IMAGINARY TRAILHEADS INSTEAD OF ENJOYING NATURE.

It's quiet and an easy stroll / hike. Not sure who rated it as moderate since the terrain is generally flat, it is a short hike and the trail is well maintained. Summer is hot and only partially shaded. Brings sunscreen and a hat.

As a member of Fatrac I get updates. There are days, when the system is open for bikes that it is a self guided tour. My only concern is my car getting so dirty and having to drive such a rough road to get there. If you have a truck no problem.
All you have to do is follow their rules and many could enjoy it.
They have some big plans for the future, linking a trail system to it. Check them out.

This place sucks apparently its trespassing if you do not have a guide with you.. Says on the sight that its open to the public.. That is a lie! Also the entrance is hidden. After the last "creek" giant puddle the gate is on the right side. Do not bring a normal car down the dirt road u might get stuck do to the giant puddles. Not coming back here.

Deer Creek Hills is awesome. Rolling hills, oak trees, bits of early California, gorgeous wildflowers. All trails are open. Not sure what Meredith above is referring to - Deer Creek Hills has been open for a few years. No trail closures for rebuilding. Check out www.sacramentovalleyconservancy.org for more information about hiking.
