Clara Burgess Trail to Murray Hill is a 6.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Palm Springs, CA that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
This trail is difficult to find but if you go to the Garstin trail then to The wild horse trail you will find the Clara burgess trail. Not shade, fairly clear path. I was able to run over half of the trail. This trail is really good for all levels.
Hot (early Sept) but well worth it. Went to the top then kept going down the other side to my hotel. If you do this, stay up above the wash as long as possible. I came across several 10ft+ drops that required rope, which I was glad to have with me.
This trail if you find it, not easy to get to in the first place. The reward is Murray Peak. To find the starting point of this trail is difficult. You'll have to go through a series of trails first. Start at Garstin Trail, when you see the intersection of Shanon and Berns Trail, go right to Clara Burgess. You might think you're on Clara Burgess but you're not. You're actually on your way to Wildhorse Trail which is a half mile away. You have to complete Wildhorse Trail and at the end is where you'll see the trailhead to Clara Burgess. From Garstin to the starting point of Clara Burgess will take you around 2 hours. Depending what month and time you do this hike, make sure you have plenty of water and enough snacks because this trail has no shade. Since this is not a loop trail, you'll have to return the same way which can be a total bummer. That's why Loop trails will always be the best. Depending on your hiking speed, it will take at least five hours; give yourself six if you've never been in this area. You'll discover after standing at Murray Peak the hidden valleys that nobody has ever seen or will ever see. If anybody was thinking about hiking this trail, this is very important, plan on going between these months October - March. Early in the morning, if you have hiking sticks, you’ll really need to use them at Garstin and Wildhorse and especially at Murray Peak. Standing at the summit of Murray Peak might give you an idea what it must of been like when Yeshua was being tempted by Satan. You'll really feel like on top of the world. If you ever wanted to know what vertigo is like? The summit of Murray Peak is a rock boulder around 4 square feet. Just stand on top of that, and then you'll know what vertigo means. :)
