Awesome hike with the family with beautiful weather
Steep towards end. Lots of switchbacks and very little flat ground.
Beautiful coastal view. Challenging hike. Perfect for families.
We hiked Buzzards Roost after hiking Pfeiffer Falls. It was challenging but doable. Trail was well maintained. View at the top was great! Beware of the poison oak, but that's not uncommon at Big Sur.
I'd rate it Moderate to Kick your butt! But them I'm not a young sprightly hiker. Tough climb for me, but I did it, and there's a good wide view at the top. Interesting walking through burnt trees from a fire in 2013. Lots of poison oak so be careful. If you're older, use a pole!
Pretty tough all around hike if you include the entire loop around! Warm near the top but overall a good hike! Definitely a workout!
There is definitely some incline, but it's not too long, which makes it really doable. From the top, it looks like you could have just driven up- there is a road. You can hear cars pretty much the whole time.
The trails forks so there are two routes to get to the Roost. Easy but steady climb to the top. We encountered an English couple and their daughter at the top. Mostly forested along the trail. Many redwoods along the creek at the start of this enjoyable trail.
Great trail! Short but packs in lots of fun along the way. Good climbs, steep drop offs, amazing redwoods, valley views, and panoramic views of the ocean. The only bad part is there is a ton of poison oak. But hey, it's Big Sur. there's tons of poison oak everywhere! Overall it's a great short hike that you won't regret.
Significant regrowth from the December 2013 wild fires. Amazing to see the resilience of the Redwoods and the slow replacement of scrub brush. The top is a let down when you see the private road that comes up one side of the hill. Seems like the ideal spot for a trial that continues toward the ocean but it's clear private property owners have boxed it out
Fun hike. Start out along the river, switchback through the lush trees and eventually end up with a open view of the ocean. I'd definitely do it again.
