Nice hike, but BEWARE OF MOUNTAIN LION!
This is a fire road, so good for groups. It's a nice workout coming up the hills and has nice views of DTLA and the San Gabriel Mountains. There is hardly any shade, so come prepared for sun and bring extra water.
Nice hike on a cool winter morning. Great views of the snow on the mountains to the north. A little hazy to the south, but could still see all the Santa Monica Mountains, Palos Verdes Peninsula, and even a shadow of Catalina. Wide road makes this a great hike for groups, dogs, etc.
Basically a dirt road for motor vehicle access to the top. Took the north loop up and down the south loop. The south loop seems much steeper though. Mostly in the shade by the afternoon. Great view to the ocean once you get to the top.
Apparently there was a bear spotting on the south trail today... So I'll be taking the north road back down!
Went hiking around 5 pm and finished the entire loop with plenty of breaks in between in 3 hrs. There were plenty of shade during this time of the day which was a plus because it was hot the day we went. Definitely had a lot of incline on this trail. Will definitely come back and enjoy the view from up above.
If you take the middle trail it's a good workout make sure you reach the top of the trail. You will reach a section where you think it's the top but it's actually the middle section. Only negative is that there is absolutely no shade here :(
Great hike! Would recommend starting up the north side and coming down the south side. Offers views of La Crescenta, Glendale, Burbank and on a clear day, downtown LA.
Just did this one today with a friend. Definitely a good hike that keeps the blood pumping! It took us about 2hrs and 15min, without any stops for breaks. Great view and easy enough to follow along. I'm definitely coming back to this one again
