Just did this as a 3 day backpacking trip since we couldn't reach our original destination Sailor Flat Trail due to snow. Trail starts nice and clear but very steep after a mile or so quickly devolves into a bushwhack through poison oak, blackberries and other head high brush. This trail as well as the American River Trail that connects the 3 major tails into this canyon are BADLY overgrown/impassable which is a shame because this is such a beautiful river that should be enjoyed.
