This is a hike along the American River, near the Sacramento metro area. The trail is great for hiking and normally takes 1-3 hours. This trek start at Gate 142 of the Auburn State Recreational Area and proceeds down to the base Auburn Dam. Most of the route follows a paved road. The route then reverses itself and returns via steep grades to the start at Gate 142.
Nice secluded trail through a deep wooded canyon. The north fork of the American River is beautiful and has lots of access points you can reach down by the water. Look out for rattlesnakes and black bears if your hiking early in the morning. Seen fresh bear tracks and a coiled up rattle snake right next to the trail. If you can't handle steep inclines both up and down then don't bother. Also if you do not have a deep down respect and understanding for nature DO NOT bother to come! STAY OUT LOSER!
