Varnall springs trailhead is about a 1/4 mile south of the Bench trail trailhead. Primitive backpack camps are available on the bench trail after you complete the Varnall trail.
It was just short, dry, and strenuous. If you are looking for a workout without all the great views of the other trails, then this one is good.
This was a very difficult trail especially on the way back up. The spring was dry as a bone at the end of September and kind of ugly.
This is a difficult trail. Do NOT take children down this trail. Other than that little bit, it was very scenic on the decent. We did not relish climbing back up this trail, but instead, followed the Bench trail to the Waterfall trail and made our accent there. :)
The trail is a steep descent and of course a steep climb back out. The spring is not very scenic. There are a couple of good views.
