The first 1/2 mile of this loop trail follows a ridgeline, providing an easy hike. The trail then descends into Shaddox Hollow. The descent is rather steep in places. The trail winds along the creek through stands of hardwoods and native Ozark vegetation. Some interesting limestone bluffs are found along this section. After progressing up the creek, the trail begins the climb back to the trailhead. This climb can be strenuous in places.
Good trail, hiked it with my 9 and 5 year old. Found a cave about half way in that was large enough for me to explore had there not been a humongous spider in it. Plenty to look at and the kids loved it!
A few little trails within this one to explore.
Beautiful Hike. Although it is moderate it is pretty steep at times. Trails have gravel and can be a little slippery. Beautiful Moss covered rocks, some beautiful rock formations and the plants were lush and green. Very quite the day we hiked so it was very peaceful!
Warning: gate opens at sunrise which may mean gate is opened an hour after sunrise, Rangers very friendly though!
Great walk with the wife and kid
It's a little difficult with a 3 year old but very beautiful and quiet. The cave is awesome and the loop is nice so you don't have to backtrack.
Good trail for the family
First hike we took the granddaughters with us. It was a nice hike.
Fun for kids
Love going on this trail. It was closed today for hunting season.
It was a very nice hike!
Enjoyed the walk. It was great for an afternoon stroll with our dog and not too far from the Bentonville/Rogers AR area. As for the moderate classification, it is barely moderate (more easy walking than moderate). Some of the steps in the staircase appear to be slightly loose.
This trail is short enough that my sister and I hiked this trail "Shaddox Hollow", then explored the "War Eagle Mill", then took the cave tour at "War Eagle Cavern", and lastly traveled to Withrow Springs State Park to hike "War Eagle Trail." Yes, all in ONE Saturday. It was good bonding time and a fast paced, fun day!
The trail is not as scenic as I had imaged. However, when I got home... I realized I had captured numerous great photo moments. Just no big Overlook or anything like that.
Looking for a quick hike and then exploring the rest of Hobbs? Do this!
The trail is pretty nice. Nothing too eye catching, but if your in the area, then it's definitely worth stopping by.
One of several trails in Hobbs State Park, I first found out about this trail on the Arkansas State Parks website. They had a scheduled group hike with a Park Interpreter posted on their website under events. He leada nice group of people on a guided scenic hike in the month of June. The Visitor Center of Hobbs State Park is a must see activity after the hike.
