Norfork Lake Trail to Devil's Backbone is a 4.2 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Mountain Home, AR that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Take AR 5 out of Mountain Home, follow it past Amon Lake and eventually you'll get to a sign that says to turn left for Georges Cove (Sycamore Springs RD). A few miles down the road you'll come to a sign that tells you to turn down a gravel road to get to Georges Cove (There will be two gravel roads, the first one is a driveway and the second one will go to Georges Cove.) Take the gravel road to Georges Cove and you'll see the hiking sign on your right ~1/2 mile down the road. There is an area for 2 or possibly three vehicles to park.
Rocky forest hike sometimes with you not being able to find the trail, and some places have high grass. There will be wildlife on this hike, such as deer, snakes, and ticks. If you turn around and come back from Devil's Backbone, be sure to watch carefully for signs where it splits off in two. a "TRAIL" sign on your left, and a path straight forward. If you take a left, you'll be coming back to Georges Cove, if you keep going straight you'll end up at Shoal CR Trail RD which is around 3 miles away. Trust me, I learned my lesson the very hard way.
Overall, it's a decent trail, but with the tall grass and everything else, it should be planned out as a day hike with lots of water and snacks.
