Piestewa Peak Summit Trail #300 is a 2.3 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Phoenix, AZ that features beautiful wild flowers and is only recommended for very experienced adventurers. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from March until October.
Trail 8A in and out, not a loop. No Dogs on main trail
Great first day in Phoenix , trip up was tough but the rain on the way down helped cool us off .
This trail is as difficult as it is rewarding. Almost immediately upon ascending, you get a preview of the wondrous view the peak will promise you. The entire terrain is strenuous, but still doable. It's consistent steps up, up and away. No pets allowed, so it's all people struggling to get to the top. Once at the peak, there are many differentiated flat rocks to sit on and enjoy the 360 view. I intend on returning to have yet another fun day of climbing and cherishing this beautiful trail!
Really enjoyed this trail, it was my wife and I's introduction into hiking and the Phoenix area. Making it to the top is not impossible but is definitely an accomplishment.
I much preferred the less crowded lesser trafficked trails surrounding. Saw a mama coyote protecting her den.
Love it! Great leg workout. Trail is easy to follow. Can get extremely hot in the afternoons... make sure to bring plenty of water.
Don't expect to see good hiking manners on this trail. It's not exactly "locals only", but it is a city hike, much like Camelback. It's great for conditioning and is not overly crowded early in the morning. If it's a nice weekend day, expect a lot of people. Bring at least 1.5l of water in summer
Yesterday for my elevation training I did this course X2 (up and down twice) it was fun and that second lap was tough. But just love this trail for a great leg and cardio workout.
Difficult hike, it's pretty steep. It was really crowded when I went. Views were okay. I would do it again at a different time of day.
Did the Alternate Summit trail today. I had seen it but never been on it before. It begins just inside the park and then joins the Summit Trail after maybe about a quarter mile. It is very lightly traveled and full of broken rocks that have not been tramped on. It is something new and different at Piestewa Peak Park.
Just like Camelback and South Mountain, an iconic hike in Metro Phoenix. Another hike not to do in the summer! This is a review from a hike in January, where it was nice. Try to get here early and if possible, during the week; you avoid a lot of crowds that way. That's the worst thing about this hike, the crowds. Plenty of parking available in the lot further back, and it's not too far to walk to TH. The hike is just a bunch of steps all the way up the mountain, but the real rewards are found by the views at the top. And a sense of accomplishment! An wall climb near the top and you're there! An additional scramble gets you to the absolute highest point , and the views of the city are awesome! Great hike, but there are plenty of other fun trails in the park.
Saturday mornings are crowded!
4:50 am Arrived. Parking lot full. I got the last spot in the front lot. Apparently there is a 4am wave of people that go up on Saturdays. I met the first person coming down the mountain a little after 5am.
