Palisade Trail is a 3.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Mt Lemmon, Arizona that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible from March until November.
Directions from Tucson: Take the Catalina Highway off Tanque Verde Road. Drive 4.2 miles to the Forest boundary and continue 19 miles to Organization Ridge Road just downhill from the Palisade Visitor Information Center. Turn left here and drive a quarter mile down the Organization Ridge road to the trailhead parking area.
Was great. We didn't go the whole way due to time constraints. Maybe next time.
The map shows that the trail head starts at the end of Organization ridge, this may have been the case in the past, but now the trailhead is about 0.6 miles down Organization ridge road off to the right. There is proper trailhead parking signage and a trail map but parking space is very limited. The trail then continues past Mud Spring 2.7 miles in (which is fern-filled and can be difficult to find the trail continuation) and then meets up with East fork finally at mile 6.8. Well worth the trip up the mountain for this trail for a hike or a trail run.
fun hike down the mountain then back up... great views!
