We really enjoyed this very pleasant (though rocky) trail. The first mile or so is classic saguaro desert. Once into the canyon, trees including some cottonwoods dominate the trail. It's because in the summer the canyon gets at least 5 hours less sun in the day than the Tucson valley, and the canyon collects all the runoff from the surrounding mountains.
During a 3.5-hour hike on the Saturday morning of a 3-day weekend, we saw 5 or 6 other groups along the way. Two of those groups were families with young children (upper ES through high school), and most others were pairs.

Beautiful scenery, very loose rock trail, make sure you have ankle support
