Really great hike :)
Hit the trail head at 7:15 on Super Bowl Sunday, expecting it to be a pretty quiet day. Man were we wrong. It was insanely crowded partly because of some hiking meet up group, but we were pretty much never alone on the trail.
The hike itself was good. We did Mormon Loop and Hidden Valley, so we hiked a good bit of National Trail as well. Total we came in just over 6 miles and about 1500ft, took about 3 hours. The first mile of Mormon Trail is a lot of elevation gain and a lot of rocks, but we saw some pretty young kids and a lot of dogs so I would say moderate is a fair rating. The rest of the loop- both Mormon and Hidden Valley - is pretty easy. Hidden Valley had a lot of smooth rocks that we ended up sliding down rather than trying to climb, and that part of the trail is a little more difficult to follow because for the most part it's unmarked.
If I was going to hike this again, I would want to start much earlier in the day to hopefully avoid the crowds.
Decent amount of basic cardio for the in shape athlete or a sweat challenge for anyone trying to lose weight!
Decent walking speed should take you about 30 minutes from start to trail end point but take your time as there is quite a view that can be seen of our wonderful Phoenix.
Great for trail running, can get lost pretty easily though.. and watch for bikers!
good warm up/ period of steady incline/ and then a cool down. nice balanced hike.
