It was a nice hike, but getting to the trail would have been impossible without 4 wheel drive. We did the hike on a 90 degree day and it was not too bad with the shade and wind. The hike had great views of Cottonwood and the red rocks around Sedona.

Mingus Loop is a 3.6 mile circuit. I started out on trail 106 which is Forest Road 104. At the end of FR 104 there is a fine look out point here, just a few steps from the trail head. The tail leads east & gets steep & rocky rather quickly. The trail then angels northeast & continues to lose elevation. The trail narrows but the shade is nice. When you reach trail 105A, go left. Trail 105A is mostly Northwest, climbing gradually. Turn left when you reach trail 105 (it is about a half mile long) Now this is the toughest part of the hike. The trail is a switch back, fairly quickly uphill. At the rim top, nearly three-quarters of a mile from 105A, the trail angles to the southwest, connecting to FR105. Follow that a half mile back to where you started. The hike takes about 3 hours. There is nearly 1,500 ft of elevation gain involved. The trail is close to 8,000 ft above sea level.

I did this hike w/ both of my kids they were age 4 & 5. We hiked it toward the end of September.
