Marcus Landslide Trail is an interpretive trail with signs along the way describing the geological forces that led to a landslide about 500,000 years ago. This trail is fairly easy for the most part except for the final loop section which climbs up. There are many boulders and interesting rock formations along the way. The interpretive signs give information about the landslide, how it was believed to be caused, and the resulting landscape. The trail also gives nice views of the surrounding area, including Four Peaks, Mount McDowell, Weaver's Needle. The trail is well-maintained.
nice scenery. worth the hike
Nice, very interesting rock formations with some descriptions provided.
This was a really fun and flat hike with informative signs about the geology of the region. The loop at the end was the best part. The trail is very exposed and there isn't any shade, so wear a hat and bring lots of water. I would do this again, but probably wait for cooler months (I went in late May).
I felt like a tiny explorer in a land of Giants amongst the boulders. Beautiful views, lovely flowers. And easy hike -- the loop at the very end is a must.
Beautiful views on manicured trails with a geology lesson.
Great family trail, lots of rock play opp. Kid friendly and well groomed.
Huge parking area, well organized spot. Awesome trail even though the granite can be a little tricky. Did not complete the entire trail but it does get pretty tricky. Definitely a moderate-intermediate trail. There are some decent climbs. A little tough for a beginner but not impossible. Also didn't notice any major drops or anything too dangerous. As long as you're careful even a beginner could try this out. Will go again when I get some more experience!
Really nice hike, pretty views. Loved the interpretive signs. Scottsdale does nice work on trails. Thanks Sdale.
As others have pointed out this is an easy trail full of mushroom shapes rocks. My mother and daughters still remember this trip.
Nice easy trail. Enjoyed it with friends. Nice trail head with cover and bathrooms.
Love the views along this trail and the informative signs displayed along the way.
This is a nice, fairly easy trail for the most part. There are good views, especially of the eastern mountains. Interesting rock formations in the shape of mushrooms, etc. The landslide occurred about 500,000 years ago, and there are large piles of boulders remaining. The last loop section is a bit steep in parts as it climbs up and gives views of the terrain. I took a wider loop that incorporated parts of the Rock Knob, Pemberton, and Boulder Trails (in McDowell Mountain Regional Park), as well as the full Marcus Trail. There is a $2 fee to enter the Regional Park.
