A nice moderate trail through great desert scenery crossing creeks and twisting and turning around the hills. Provides a loop opportunity between Hawk's Nest Trail, Valle Verde Trail, and Dixie Mountain Loop.

Super fantastic trail! It was a little busy but not so much that you couldn't enjoy being in nature. There are now restrooms and water fountains at the trailhead!

Part of a loop: Hawk's Nest to Desert Tortoise to Dixie Mountain, left back to Hawk' s Nest. The shorter and far easier of the two loops at 2.8 mi. All the climbing is in the .25mi Hawks Nest at the start.
Pretty amazing for a trail that starts in an apartment complex and subdivision five minutes from I 17. Start the trail and the urban sprawl disappears and you are out on untouched open desert.
A new area. No facilities at trailhead so come with full water bottles and an empty bladder. Was hard to find last year but there are now friendly signs to guide you from the main road.

Another classic Sonoran Desert trail with amazing desert scenery. Great sign posts with trail information such as GPS, elevation and distance. Provides access from Hawks Nest (trailhead) to Valle Verde Trail which then takes you to all of the trails at the south of the preserve.
Proper hiking boots recommended as trail can be rocky in some places.
