I've done Bright Angel three times now. Fantastic hike.
However, they're not kidding when they say "hard".
Unless you're a veteran badass, you'll be strained to do this trail in a single day. However, not impossible. My 2nd and 3rd completions were day trips.
Was extremely happy to stumble upon this trail. Was at the canyon for the first time and overheard others asking about the trail entrance so I decided to look into it. Hiked it on my 50th birthday in under 6 hours not bad. What a breathtaking and delightful experience.
Dank. Grand Canyon is pretty spectacular.
Five stars isn't enough for this hike. Simply the best hike I've ever done. First time a friend and I went down to Bright Angel and spent the night and hiked around a little east for the day and then hiked out the next day, The second time 2 years later we did rim to rim and back again. I was 56 and the time and it will always be my favorite place to hike in the US.
we loved this hike. At one point I didn't think I would make it back but pushed through. We packed a full lunch and drank lots of water. We felt it was worth it. Next time we plan to camp at the bottom and make it to plateau point.
Experienced hikers only. Keep hydrated. This hike is not worth it if you don't go all the way to the plateau where you can see the canyons and Colorado river. Otherwise you walking down a steep hill just go back up it
Words a not describe the hike. Take in the sights on the way down, because you will be working hard on the way up.
Experience of a lifetime!!! My boyfriend and I hiked all the way down to the opposite end of the plateau for a total of 12 miles in 7.5 hours roundtrip. Even though we are in relatively good shape, we almost passed out. Yet the GRAND beauty of it all made it worth the strenuous journey.
Going down was easy, coming back up was rough. Worth the trip. On my list to do again!
Did a day hike to the river for the 2nd time. Fantastic trail. Every hiker should do it at least once.
Awesome! Coming back up was killer though!
I love this trail! We opted to spend the night at the Indian Garden campsites and head down to Plateau Point to catch the sunset. We woke to find mule deer grazing right beside our tent. Our toddler (then three) had a blast exploring the area and enjoying the wildlife. The hike in was relatively strenuous, but the hike out was rough. I would not recommend for beginning hikers unless you start early and are adequately prepared for the heat.
Very easy going down, pace yourself. Very difficult climb out of there. I went to the restroom stop and walked back out ~3 miles.
