Short Hike With Amazing Views Of Sabino & Bear Canyons This is one of the "Must See" hikes in the area, if your in town for a short while and want a hike with spectaculer views of the Coronado National Forrest, then you have to do this one. After you park your car in the lot, walk over to the Bear Canyon trailhead, it will be off to the right of the visitors center. Shortly after you start the hike you will come to a paved tram road, turn right and walk along the paved tram road until you come to a small building, cross the bridge to your right and start out along the Phoneline trail, very shortly you'll see the trailhead sign for Blacketts Ridge Trail. This trail will give you all your eyes generally need of the wonderful mountainous terrain we have here in Tucson. At the top you'll have inreadible views of Thimble Peak to the Northeast and an awsome view of the Phoneline Trail way down below. Bring the camera and gets some awsome shots of you and your hiking partner atop of one of the highest peaks in the Park.
Loved doing this hike because it gets your heart going. The trail is easy to follow.
I'm new to Tucson and to hiking, but am physically fit. This trail was definitely difficult due to the steep vertical gain. It took me 1.5 hours up, not including a few 5 minute rests. The way down is treacherous. Next time I will use poles. I lost footing several times, and had to slow way down.
Absolutely gorgeous, and well worth it, though!
Great hike. Liked it so much in May that I had to do it again this week! Breathtaking views.
I love this hike, stunning views at the top!
Steep grind of a workout up the switchbacks. Definitely go out here if you're looking for a workout hike.
Loved this hike! Saw 2 Javelinas, collared lizards and a little gray chipmunk at the summit. Another hiker reported seeing a rattler cross the path. Astounding 360 degree views. Terrain is varied enough to keep you interested. The false summits made it fun because "just when you think you're almost to the end...hahaha."Great view of Thimble Rock. Exhilarating adventure for just a 6 mile hike.
Great hike with beautiful views. One bee hive along the way, it was well marked and not an issue.
Definitely a steep climb, but once you make it past the false summits you're walking along the ridge. The views are stunning! Great workout.
Most of the elevation gain comes in about 0.5mi after the turn off Phoneline trail with plenty of "false summits". But the views are amazing and well worth it.
Good distance and verticals mix. Beautiful views!
definitely a hard trek. You use the Phone line trail to get to the split to take Blackest Ridge. from there it is 1.7 miles. it was difficult. a lot of elevation. I didn't make it the entire way do to time constraints but I am planning on hitting it again in the next few days when I have more time. great workout. and very scenic.
A little crowded but other a great, challenging hike
Great trail with a decent workout because of the switch backs.
Amazing hike! Start out early in the morning if you're going in the summer. We took the back side, allowing us to make the hike longer and in my opinion, we had much better views. We had to cross over the river about 4 times, so get ready to get wet. Not as challenging as we hoped it would be, but still a wonderful hike. Encountered two rattlers, so be careful.
Not as easy as advertised. It's almost all uphill with numerous false summits to keep the intrigue going. Excellent views throughout.
