Since I have further looked at this I have decided we went down the wrong trail. But we started at the fee station and went up the rather steep incline then went left instead of right. I believe RPT was the right and we went up another very steep trail to the top of the mountain. Just be careful and aware because it was a difficult instead of easy trail to the left. Steep with rocks that were loose. It was still a great trail though definitely challenging with 2 and 4 yr old.

Great hike, nothing complicated, kind of steep if your not use to hiking. Several other options for other hikes in and around the around. Amazing views 360, all around from the summit. As always, bring bug spray.

It is possible to do a much liger hike in the same valley. There is a trail behind the old military ski area where one can walk up the SW ridge to Rendezvous Peak, drop down to the saddle the ascend to Mount Gordon Lyon, walk the ridge toward the old Nike site then take any route to the valley floor and back to the parking lot. About 5-6 miles total. Good training.

Attempted this hike mid April, still a little too snowy. Will definitely go again in the summertime to avoid posthole'ing my way up

Relatively simple hike, across the valley you can watch the skiers which is rather amusing. The top of the mountain is owned by the US Air Force so I thought it was a bit of a bummer you can summit the mountain as it is closed off. However very pretty view of the mountins and anchorage, if you don't mind the Air Force areas

It's a good all seasons hike. Snowshoes needed in winter.

Great quick hike with 360 degree views of Anchorage, the Valley, and the South Fork all the way to Symphony Lake. Bring your camera!
