Swan Creek Greenway Trail is a 2.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Athens, Alabama that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking, trail running, and road biking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

This greenway trail meanders along Swan Creek. The nature greenway area is not far from downtown Athens or Interstate 65, but this seems much more remote. It provides serene views of the creek that are mostly forested. The 0.6 mile from the Sportplex Trailhead is paved and wooden boardwalk cross any ditched and wetlands it should be wheelchair accessible. The next 0.5 mile (turning left) the trail leaves Swan Creek and joins with the Athens High School Loop Trail, a gravel trail, and goes along the back side of the high school. This portion ends at Swan Creek Park, which has picnic pavilions (with restrooms), tennis courts, and a archery range. Turn left and cross the bridge for the next part of the trail. The next 1.2 mile portion joins back up with Swan Creek. This section is also gravel and ends at U.S. Highway 72. The Swan Creek Greenway Trail is a designated National Recreation Trail.
Very safe trail.
Really enjoy this trail when just in the mood to walk. It is a nice level trail that is paved as well as have several benches along the way. Worth the walk!
Good little trail to walk and when the water is up its a fun creek to kayak.
This trail may be short but it's beautiful and peaceful. Running by the water at some points and surround by lush foliage the trail is great for the beginner or the more advanced. Flat areas combined with slight inclines provide an experience the works for runners, walkers and bikers alike. There are several rest benches available along the trail as well. The end of the trail connects to the Athens High School walking track which will take you to a shorter paved walking/biking trail. For me, this greenway is a hidden gem in Athens.
