Oak Mtn Unknown Yellow Trail Loop is a 2.8 mile loop trail located near Pelham, AL and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
A short uphill hike leads to a forgotten trail that offers solitude The hike starts by following the Green Trail up the mountain to where the Orange trail crosses the Green trail. Go west on the Orange Trail until you reach a point where the Orange Trail takes a 90-degree turn northwest, leading back down the mountain. You will pass where the Yellow Trail turns off to your right (northwest). After reaching the point where the Orange Trail leads down the mountain, look straight ahead (southwest) and you will see the remnants of a trail. This is the old Yellow Trail, a few blazes on the trees will confirm this. Few people know of this trail and it's not on the park trail maps. Follow this unknown section of the old Yellow Trail down the mountain. There are 2 easy stream crossings and the trail parallels a creek. The trail ends at where the Red (bike) trail crosses Peavine Falls Road. To finish the loop follow Peavine Falls Road back to the parking area. I hope you enjoy hiking this largely unknow trail in Oak Mtn State Park.
