Conecuh NF South Loop is a 8 mile loop trail located near Samson, AL and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible from March until May. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Cypress Ponds, Blue Spring, Longleaf Pine Forests and lots of wild life. The terrain is much like one would expect in southern Alabama. There are lots of pine trees and lots of swamps and or ponds. If you plain to camp over night be prepared to be serenade to sleep be the millions of frogs. There is lots of interesting wild life. Beware of snakes. The trails are in great shape and the terrain is pretty easy. The Blue Spring was a disappointment. It seems to be a local hang out. There was lots of trash. Part of the south loop near the spring was under water and the bridges were washed away due to recent rain fall.
it was great. the water was pristine, and ice cold. the landscape was beautiful. I took my 5 year old son with me to camp, and it was very kid friendly. The only downside was finding the trail to the spring. it wasn't marked anywhere, and it took about 45 minutes of driving down random trails until we found it. but it was definitely worth the effort.
we will definitely be back.
