Edinburgh's Royal Mile - Castle To Palace is a 1.3 mile point-to-point trail located near Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom that offers scenic views. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for walking.
An amble down the Royal Mile, soaking in the beauty and history of Edinburgh's "Old Town". This is a pleasant walk downhill, along Edinburgh's World famous Royal Mile, Edinburgh's High Street, linking The Castle (at the top), to the Palace at Holyrood (at the bottom). This walk explores the best bits of the Royal Mile. As well as walking straight down the Royal Mile, I'd recommend having an explore down some of the closes and wynds that dive off the sides of the main thoroughfare. Imagine the layers of humanity who used to live/work/grow and die in these tightly-packed tenements and underground vaults. There are numerous cafes, shops, boutiques and restaurants as we descend the Royal Mile - take your time to explore wherever you wish, cashmere-hunters and whisky-lovers can rejoice in the huge array of "tourist-centred" Scotland Souvenir shops. This is an easy journey, cobbled in parts, but straight ahead and downhill, with plenty of coffee spots along the way for the less-abled or weary-travelled.
It's a beautiful place for a walk. There are lots of great shops along the way including everything from tourist shops to a store where it's Christmas every day. Also be sure to stop at any places along the way that sell fudge. Best fudge I ever had was on the Royal Mile. The castle is the highlight of the mile and offers beautiful views of the entire city.
