Come explore Victoria Park Victoria Park is a large park just off of downtown Edmonton that is in constant use by residents, golfers, bikers and tourists alike. The majority of land for Victoria Park was acquired by the City of Edmonton in 1912, at which time it was known as Hudson's Bay Company Flats. It was renamed to Victoria Park after Queen Victoria. The land was established as an urban park that proved to be popular as a picnic destination and with local sports groups. A rifle range, horse stables, and Edmonton's first cricket pitch were established. Currently, Victoria Park Golf Course is located within the park and is its dominant tenant on the west end, with the Royal Glenora Club on the east side of the park. Victoria Golf Course was established in 1896 before Edmonton was founded, and is Canada's oldest municipal golf course. The Royal Glenora Club opened in 1961 and was the amalgamation of three Edmonton Sport Clubs: the Glenora Skating and Tennis Club, the Braemar Badminton Club, and the Royal Curling Club. The Royal Glenora is a member only club. This walk takes you through the main public parking entrance, past the picnic area and kids playground and onto the paths that cut through the golf course (watch out for balls!). Further along, this path will take you to the clubhouse for a refreshment and then up the wooden steps and you can skirt the entire boundary of the west side of this park. You pass the netted driving range and are treated to beautiful views as you walk down into the river valley. Once you reach the riverside, you will carry on the trail that runs along River Valley Road until you return to our starting point. This is a busy, shared use trail, so be aware of the people and activities going on around you.
