I did this as part of the Wapta on touring skis. It was a lovely route. Very scenic. Some tricky sections crossing the river at the end of Peyton lake. There is one steep section crossing onto the Moraine. But we were able to ascend with skis and skins. The Peyton hut is stunning. It requires glacier crevasse rescue equipment and the skills to use them. Yamnuskan offers a worthwhile hike across the glacier in the summer. Excellent intro to Mountaineering.
This is a trail that you really need to be prepared for. I was there at the end of May & there was still 3+ feet of snow. Snow shoes & cleats are a must! Its a quick hike from the parking lot to the Peyto Lake viewing area. There are more trails that wind along the way & depending on the condition of the trail & your shoeware, you may or may not be able to achieve the full 8miles this area offers.
