Walk your dog or launch a hot air ballon right here! Buena Vista Park is one of the larger parks in the City of Edmonton. Running from Government House Park to Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park and connected to Hawrelak Park with a pedestrian bridge, it is a great natural park to explore. This walk takes you through a very large off leash area for dogs, and interestingly enough, a hot air ballon launch site in the Great Meadow. The off leash area, except for the pedestrian bridge, is covered by this walking map. Once you leave the parking area you cross into the Great Meadow and the hot air ballon launch area. No balloons on this day, but lots of pets! The gravel paths are wide and well maintained with very little elevation change. The walk on the pedestrian bridge is not to be missed as it provides some great views of the river valley. On the way back, you can walk along the gravel path and back to the parking lot or walk along the riverbank. The walk along the river is a much nicer and relaxing stroll. You will pass the boathouse for the Edmonton Whitewater Paddlers. The Club is a registered non-profit society formed in 1973 for the purpose of promoting canoe and kayak paddling for recreation and competition. Make sure you check out their website!
