Fort Centre Park is a fantastic, wide expanse of grassland and hillside that runs along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. Paved trails provide easy access to all types of activities. Highlights of this park include the Fort Saskatchewan Rotary Club Amphitheatre and Arboretum, Peter Ream Park and the great views of the river valley. There is parking by the tennis courts or the activity centre. The first portion of the path takes you into a small wooded area with many flowering trees to enjoy. There is a junction point here which takes you around the park or up to the Fort Saskatchewan Museum and Historic Site. Moving on, you will pass the grassy hillside which makes up the natural amphitheatre. This area is a work in progress by the Rotary Club, but is already used for many events. Passing into the trees along the river, you will be treated to occasional views of the North Saskatchewan River and the bridge that crosses it. Once you pass under the bridge, you will begin a section of trail that increases in elevation until you cross the pedestrian bridge over 94th Street. On your left you will see a small graveyard, marked by white metal crosses. This is the final resting place for TB victims at the turn of the century. The change in elevation now provides you with outstanding views of the river valley and historic Lamoureux across the river. There are a couple of lookout points and interpretive signage provided by the City to explain the views you are enjoying. On the final leg, you will pass behind the newly competed replica of Fort Saskatchewan, which is a facsimile of the original 1875 NWMP Fort. Go in for a visit.
