A few places to get a view early on the way up but wooded most of the rest of the way. Steady up until the last 20% then steep and difficult after you get to the open scrabble area. Wasn't sure at the top where it ended. I was within 20m according to the posted map which was odd. I just picked a place and enjoyed my lunch and an outstanding view!
It's the usual uphill grind through the Forrest. Some cool sights to see along the way - old mines and houses. When you get to the Cirque it's pretty cool. If you look to the right of the cirque you'll see a trail that goes up, this is a steep uphill battle for about 1.5 km or so to the top of the ridge on the right hand side of the cirque. Do it, take your time. It maybe adds 45 min to the hike. But once you get to the top of the ridge past the 2nd rock slide them ire of the valley, lake Minnewanka and Two Jack Lake is awesome.
Spectacular View of Lake Minnewanka!
Standard uphill slog, but the experience at the top is spectacular. Be sure to continue along the trail towards the rocks, the view is even better from up there.
Did this one a few years ago in the fall. Nice steady uphill hike through the forest. Unfortunately when we reached the end it was too clouded to see the amphitheatre. Will have to try again!
Muddy with the rain but nice afternoon hike
Great family hike to cirque basin. Steady incline (steepest during the first bit) through the forest, past old mine buildings + vent shafts, then arrive at the cirque (nice spot to enjoy a snack). Today, we headed past the cirque (faint trail along the right) + hiked the very steep path (about 1km/300m) up to the high point view. Stunning views of Lake Minnewanka + the valley. A challenging descent back to the cirque due to steepness + slippery conditions from a recent rain (I wouldn't recommend this additional stretch for young kids or inexperienced hikers).
Great hike. Not too difficult, but really enjoyable
Great hike to do. Had a slow morning but wanted to get out to hike. Nothing too challenging but amazing view at the end.
Good clear trail parking and toilets at the start on the trail and signed. Steep and short fairly tree covered until you get out to the rock pile. Pass a few of the old mine shafts in the woods and a great view of the valley/lake minnewanka at the top
Nice trail, mostly slight incline until Rock amphitheater opening then approx. 1 more km to lake view (stay right on amphitheater trail by tree line)
I did this hike with 2 friends, 1 who isn't very fit and we all really enjoyed it. There is a view point right after the abandoned building which you can kind of see through the trees before you even get to the first mine shaft. It's a gorgeous view of Lake Minnewanka and the surrounding mountains. Definitely the highlight of the hike. Keep your eyes open for it! I also brought my dog on a leash and he did great. It was an easy trail for him too. The steepest parts are at the beginning.
